AS/400 Maintenance
Hardware maintenance of the AS/400 system is largely performed by IBM’s own technicians.
This happens almost always in the first three years of life of the computer, as a three-year maintenance formula is almost always sold at the moment of purchase of the system.
After the first three years it is easier to find AS/400 systems being maintained by companies other than IBM.
Typically, as computer failures are rare, relying on companies other than IBM can be a functional choice, too.
Almost all companies that use AS/400 have a maintenance contract for it.
In recent years there has also been a tendency to install HA solutions (High Availability – High Availability) at least where applications are mission critical.
