Consulenza > AS/400 > Link AS/400
On this page you can find links to the main AS/400 system manuals (IBM i – iSeries).
The manuals are mainly in English and targeted at version 7.6 of the operating system.
The complete list can be found at the following link:
The list visible at this address is a list of links to all AS/400 manuals available from IBM. In some cases, if clicked on, the links do not lead directly to the PDF manual but to a web page where the desired information can be consulted. If you prefer to read the manual in PDF form (downloadable), you will find a link at the top of the first web page shown.
Links to the main manuals.
The first link we propose is for basic AS/400 system operations. Explains the operations to manage videos, printers, jobs, etc. It also explains switching the system on and off, command structure, basic safety information, etc. Definitely, a starting point for those who want to start using or managing the AS/400.
In the general list mentioned above, you will find manuals on specific topics of AS/400 management (security, communications, storage, backup, encryption, performance, maintenance, TCP/IP, etc.). These are not popular texts. They are aimed at users who already possess at least a minimal knowledge of AS/400.
Let us now see the links to the manuals for programming activities on the AS/400 system.
At the following links, you will find manuals for preparing video formats and for detailing the DDS (Data Description Specification), i.e. the specific keywords describing the video with their parameters.
These, on the other hand, are the links for preparing prints in ‘Basic’ format (without graphics).

The manuals in the following links explain how to create and process AS/400 archives (files) (DB2400 tables).

The following links point to the two manuals for writing programmes in the RPG ILE language.
The explanations are aimed at the RPG-Free version (the most recent), which evolved from the RPGIV version. The ‘Reference‘ aims to show all individual commands with a detailed explanation of the instructions. The ‘Programmer’s Guide‘, on the other hand, explains how to build an RPG programme and how to run it.

RPG programmes can encapsulate SQL code. The following link takes you to the manual that sets out the explanations for this type of programming.
SQL embedded in programmes RPG
The following two links point to manuals for SQL programming, for reading/editing DB2400 tables and for constructing Store Procedures. Here too, the ‘Reference’ is aimed at explaining the individual SQL statements.
For COBOL, Java and C programming, please refer to the list of manuals mentioned at the beginning where you will find specific manuals.
We also refer to the API (application programme interface) manual. These are functions that can be called up outside the direct control of the operating system to achieve results that AS/400 commands do not allow.
Lastly, we would like to point out that there is, for the more advanced technicians, a collection of manuals called Redbooks.
The IBM Redbooks are a series of technical publications created by IBM and selected industry experts. They provide in-depth guidance on IBM products, solutions and technologies. They can be consulted at this link:
